Olivia Akana

Vocalist Olivia Akana, B.A.

Vocalist Olivia Akana (née Duncan) grew up in the mountains of Northern California where she first fell in love with singing at the young age of 6 while performing in local musical productions of the Christmas Carol, Oliver, Fiddler on the Roof, Secret Garden and more. As a senior in high school, Olivia played the role of Maria in the Sound of Music and also learned to play the guitar and performed at her high school graduation. Olivia then went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts in Vocal Performance from Oregon State University where she earned several academic and artistic scholarships and graduated Summa Cum Laude. While attending OSU, Olivia focused heavily on Classical & Romantic Era opera and art song while still keeping musical theater a genre of interest. Olivia won the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Cascade Chapter and Northwest Region Classical Competition upper division collegiate women’s category in Spring 2015. She also sang the national anthem at the Oregon State University graduation in 2015. Olivia directed and performed in OSU Opera Workshop’s many scenes productions over the years, and also served as production manager for many of the performances.Currently, Olivia is working in Cambridge using her keen production management skills on the operations side of a biotech company. She is based locally in Bedford, coaches volleyball at Bedford High School in the Fall, and hopes to teach many more people the joy of expression through singing. She hopes students will find their voice in whichever genre they feel the most comfortable, while teaching basic classical techniques to help them achieve their musical goals.
