launch pad for a student’s musical journey. We explore

WHY?
MiniKeys plants the seeds for a growing love of music. Through games, songs,
and hands-on instrument play, MiniKeys nurtures creativity, kindness, and
friendship in a musical environment!

MiniKeys is perfect for total beginners!. Kids who do well
in MiniKeys are excited to try out all the instruments and
enjoy playing games and learning in a group setting
WHAT HAPPENS IN MINIKEYS?
A typical MiniKeys class includes the following:
Drum Circle: Warms up the ear, body and brain. Builds community and teamwork while reinforcing the concepts of pulse, dynamics and tempo.
Sing-Along: Warm up the voice with fun and active sing-along songs for everyone! Each song will focus on a particular music fluency!
Music and Movement: Full body games that physicalize the fluencies and give fellow musicians a chance to feel the rhythm of the music.
Songwriting: Brainstorm and develop original song ideas incorporating a chosen theme and a fluency prompt.
Chamber Ensemble: Where it all comes together! Our mini-musicians practice fluencies on all of the instruments and learn how to compose music together.
HOW? FLUENCY FIRST!
Bandmates in MiniKeys will learn a wide range of musical fluencies including:
RHYTHM
- Recognize the pulse of a song and isolating beat 1 in 4/4
- Ability to isolate playing on beats 1, 2, 3, OR 4 • Draw and read rhythmic note values
HARMONY
- Recognition of Major and Minor chords Ability to hear chord changes
MELODY
- Recognizing and playing melodic phrases and patterns (using the notes C, D, and E.
- Discernment between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd note intervals
SONGWRITING
- Explore the role of each band instrument in a song Understand Song form: Verse & Chorus
- Write and perform several original songs with bandmates
