Joy Ko, B.M.

 

Joy was born in Seoul, South Korea, and started playing piano at age 5 and played flute at the
age of 11. She showed her talent for piano and received awards from piano competitions at 12.
From early ages, she participated in numerous youth orchestra and ensemble works with flute.
She was a full-scholarship student at her undergraduate school and she graduated summa cum
laude from Chugye University for the Arts. She has played with numerous orchestras, including
the Prime Philharmonic Orchestra Guest 2nd Chair 2004, Royal Symphony Orchestra Guest
Principal Flute 2004, Seoul National Symphony Orchestra 2nd flute 2003, Korean University
Medical School Orchestra 1st Flute 2001. As her teaching experiences, she taught flute
performance in afterschool programs and private studios for many years. Ms. Ko received a
Bachelor’s degree in flute performance at Chugye University for the Arts, where she studied
with Flutist Young Ji Song. Following that, she is pursuing a Master’s degree at Longy School of
Music of Bard College with Flutists Sergio Pallottelli and Sooyun Kim. She has many
experiences in teaching a variety of students from young kids to adults. In addition to her role as
a pianist, she served as an accompanist for a Korean Church.
